After initial and often individual help from a very patient group leader, beginners and those needing a confidence boost, join a larger group where the aim is to help improve swimming skills while always respecting individual’s capabilities.
Our swimmers practise strokes including front and back crawl, front and back breast stroke, side stroke, sculling and floating. Butterfly is not included as this can be harmful to those lacking back flexibility.
The session also involves swimming games and imaginative tasks to improve breathing, stamina and mobility. Diving sticks, ping pong balls, straws, hoops and other equipment is provided to make the sessions fun as well as instructive.
Indeed much of the focus is on having fun in the pool as this provides a healthy combination of physical effort, enjoyment and well being as part of a friendly group.
